Review Queue
Review and act on flagged payments and held authorizations from one centralized queue.
On this page
The Review Queue is a centralized view of payment decisions that require manual assessment. When a transaction is flagged for review, your team can quickly inspect the details and choose the right action.
Payments enter the Review Queue in one of two ways:
Review rule matches. A transaction matches a rule with a Review action in the Rule Engine.
Manual capture payments. A payment is authorized but not yet captured.
Each item shows transaction details, the rule that triggered the review, and relevant customer information. You can review the payment and then approve, refund, capture, or cancel it depending on the item type. The queue also retains completed decisions, so you can reference past reviews.
1. Review Rule Matches
When a transaction matches a rule with a Review action, Corgi Intelligence still processes the payment as normal. If the payment succeeds, it is placed in the Review Queue for manual assessment.
From the Review Queue, you have two options:
Approve
Approve marks the review as completed. Nothing changes on the underlying payment. The customer was already charged during normal processing, and the payment proceeds as usual.
Refund
Refund cancels the payment and returns the funds to the customer. Your payment provider typically charges a non-refundable processing fee. Some providers also charge an additional refund fee. Your support team may want to inform the customer or be prepared for any follow-up inquiries.
Review before the customer is charged
By default, payments that match Review rules are processed and the customer is charged as normal. If your business needs time to prepare for fulfillment, or if your average order value is high enough that you want to review orders before capturing funds, you can use manual capture instead.
Manual capture places a hold on the customer's payment method without charging them. You can then review the order and decide whether to capture or cancel.
If you process payments via Stripe, you can refer to Stripe's guide on manual capture here.
2. Manual Capture Payments
All manual capture payments automatically appear in the Review Queue. If a payment matches both a Review rule and the manual capture criteria, you can see both reasons listed for the item.
When you review a manual capture payment, you have two options:
Capture
Capture completes the charge and the customer is billed. The authorization hold is converted into a captured payment.
Cancel
Cancel releases the hold on the customer's payment method. No charge is made.
Authorization timing
The authorization placed on the customer's payment method expires based on the capture window set by your payment provider or card network. That window is typically five to seven days, though it can vary by provider and network.
If you do not act on the review within the authorization period, your payment provider will typically cancel the authorization automatically unless otherwise specified.
3. Key behaviors to keep in mind
Rule-matched payments are still processed. A Review action does not stop the transaction. The payment goes through, and the item lands in the queue afterward.
Dual-trigger items show both reasons. If a payment is flagged by a Review rule and is also a manual capture, both reasons are visible in the queue.
Refunds incur fees. Processing fees are usually not refunded by the payment provider. Some providers charge an additional refund fee.
Uncaptured authorizations expire. If you do not capture or cancel a manual capture payment within the authorization window, the hold is typically released automatically.
